London show this Thursday

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Kendal, Bury and Saltaire shows, all sold out and all great nights. On Thursday we swing by Dingwalls in London’s Camden for our first London show in over a year. Easterhouse release more tickets

Further to the announcement below, Easterhouse (show on Thurs 8th March) have just released a further 20 tickets having found extra capacity by rearranging staging within the venue. If you have tried to get tickets but have been told it is sold out, it may be worth another call to the venue today. Good luck.

More sold out shows

Thanks to everyone who has come along to the shows on the UK tour so far. Other dates are selling fast with The Platform in Easterhouse and Bury Met already sold out. Other dates close to sell out include Castle Douglas, Kendal, Leicester and Tunbridge Wells with others selling well. If you’re planning to come along to any of these shows in particular we’d advise you to buy your tickets soon. We looking forward to seeing you down the road.

Byre Theatre sold out

With our UK tour getting underway next week, we’ve just received news of our first sold out date on the tour – Byre Theatre in St. Andrews – a month ahead of the show. Fans in the area may want to try Perth Concert Hall for tickets if they’ve been unable to get tickets for The Byre Theatre.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2007

Salsa Celtica opened the show for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in London last night with a storming version of Cafe Colando performed with special guest Eliza Carthy. The show will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 between 7.00-9.00pm (UK time) on Wednesday (7th Feb). Despite three nominations the band were pipped at the post in all categories this year but were thrilled to be nominated and particularly to be asked to perform. Thanks to everyone at Smooth Operations and BBC Radio 2 for making this very special annual event happen.

More festivals announced for summer 2007

We have just added details of several more festival confirmed for Salsa Celtica in summer 2007 including Gillingham Festival in England, an event in Grantown-On-Spey in the Scottish Highlands and Colours Festival in The Czech Republic. We have also added two more dates to the UK tour in Inverness and Easterhouse outside Glasgow. Look out for more festival dates coming soon.

Eliza Carthy with us at Celtic Connections

On Saturday 27th January Salsa Celtica will play a show for the Celtic Connections Festival at the Fruit Market in Glasgow supported by the Fred Morrison Band. We are delighted to announce that Eliza Carthy will be our very special guest for this show.

Driving Lessons UK TV premiere

This Sunday (17th Dec) the movie Driving Lessons, starring Julie Walters, Rupert Grint and Laura Linney, has its UK TV premiere on ITV1 as part of ITV’s Christmas schedule. So anyone who missed it in cinemas, can catch Salsa Celtica’s performance and music in the film from 9.00pm UK time on Sunday.

UK 2007 Tour – dates announced

You heard it here first. Just added to the website are the details of Salsa Celtica’s UK tour for 2007. Starting with the opening concert in the brand new East Wood Park Theatre in Giffnock outside Glasgow on February 22nd and ending in the Civic Hall in Startford-Upon-Avon on April 1st, the tour also includes two festival appearances at Oxford Folk Festival and a short trip abroad to play Luxembourg’s Zeltic Festival. Nominees in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards

Announced on BBC Radio 2 last night, Salsa Celtica have been nominated for THREE awards in the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the Best Live Band Award, the Best Group Award and the Best Traditional Track Award for Grey Gallito featuring Eliza Carthy. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at The Brewery venue in London on Monday 5th February 2007 and broadcast on The Mike Harding Show on BBC Radio 2 the following Wednesday.
