Celtic Connections Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

As it says below it’s our 15th Birthday so this is a special gig to celebrate the anniversary. They are taking the seats out in the stalls area of the concert hall so should be a great night. The concert also features the Mayra Andrade band. 2010 marks 15 years since Salsa Celtica embarked on their great Scottish Latin adventure, a notable birthday celebrated tonight with an even bigger bang than the Edinburgh-based big band customarily lay on. With the show also launching their first live album and DVD, and with a fifth studio release due later in the year, upwards of 20 musicians will form the “orquesta” with an international cast of world and Celtic music guest stars from Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela ,Cape Verde, New York , Asturias, Ireland, England and Scotland, including amongst others Ireland’s Liam Ó Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers).

What’s coming up in 2009

Next up is a live recording for Radio Scotland’s Global Gathering on the 16th June (around 9 pm). The show is then to be broadcast on the BBC World Service so you should be able to hear it almost anywhere on this world and maybe even beyond.

Then next in July and August is what looks like an amazing tour of the USA. We have posted some of the dates on the website, more to follow. This is first time we have done a US tour since 2001 so hopefully we will see some old and new friends at the gigs. Looking forward to seeing you all the best for now.

Salsa Celtica Big Band

Hello all, now summer 2009 so sorry for the delay in saying thanks to all those who came down to see our shows way back in coldest January and May.
We had a great week of concerts, Saltaire, Peebles, London (St Lukes), Birnam and Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival. They were all sold out and fantastic gigs, we finished off the mini tour with a spectacular Salsa Celtica big band gig at the Celtic Connections festival. The gig was at the Fruitmarket venue and featured a 16 piece big band line up of Salsa Celtica with guest musicians including the fantastic Scottish Gaelic singers Julie Fowlis and Kathleen MacKinnes. The gig was filmed for BBC Alba and there are some clips up on the interweb – see our “video page”:http://www.salsaceltica.com/video.html for links.
We then had had a couple of nice gigs in England, Kendal Brewery Arts Centre and then the Bury Met in Bury we have some new live photos from all these gigs up on the site. Thanks again for coming down to the shows.
